Current School Provision Curriculum
11 - 16
During Key Stage 3 (Years 8-10) pupils follow the full Northern Ireland Curriculum (currently under review). All pupils at Key Stage 4 (Years 11 & 12) are preparing for public examinations including GCSEs (Single and Double Awards), Occupational Studies, Diploma and Certificate Level Awards in a mix of academic and vocational subjects.
Post 16
AS & A2 LEVEL GCE - Students taking 'A' level GCE examinations follow a two year course, AS level in Year 13 and A2 in Year 14. To offer as wide and varied an academic and vocational programme as possible, a link operates between the Sixth Forms of the Girls’ and Boys’ Model. This arrangement has been working successfully for over 20 years.
Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education - Courses in IT and Performing Arts.
National Vocational Qualification in Business & Administration (with work placement)
CACHE Childcare course (with work placement);1 Year Certificate, 2 Year Diploma.
Enrichment courses are also offered in the Sixth Form including ICT (Microsoft Academy), CLAIT, etwinning, Careers, Religious Studies, PE and Personal Effectiveness
Year 8-14 have ready access to well-developed PSHE and Careers Guidance programmes. Teachers have the assistance of tutors from the School of Music, a Library Assistant, French and Spanish language assistants, and Careers Officers from the Department of Education and Learning. Educational visits, Enterprise Education and Work Experience ensure that all girls gain some direct knowledge of the world of work.
Current School Provision - Accommodation
School accommodation includes well-equipped laboratories, computer rooms and state-of-the-art Technology complex. Art and Music suites, a fine Assembly Hall and excellent gymnasia all enhance the school’s facilities. Teaching is enriched from a well-stocked Learning, Resource and Information Centre (LRIC). The grounds include all-weather hockey pitches, a sports track and tennis courts.
Current School Provision – Extra-Curricular Activities
Pupils are encouraged to take part in wider school life. A variety of extra-curricular activities are on offer including choirs and orchestras, a Drama Club, driving lessons, Scripture Union, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, Youth Bank and a range of sporting, dance and gymnastic clubs. The school minibuses facilitate visits to other schools, sporting and community events and field study centres.
