Educational Support Unit

At times some pupils may need extra help and support with their work. In school this support is provided by the Educational Support Unit (ESU). This is a caring environment where pupils are encouraged to develop the skills that will help them to become more confident in all aspects of school life.

The support provided by the ESU includes:

  • Small tutorial groups for literacy and numeracy during Key Stage 3
  • Support with GCSE coursework through the ‘Coursework Clinic’
  • Individual programmes for pupils returning to school after long periods of absence
  • Reading groups and paired reading programmes
  • Handwriting groups

A team of teachers and classroom assistants ensure that every pupil receives the help they need. Peripatetic staff from other organisations provide additional support for pupils during the school day.
