School Nurse

Nurse Valerie Dennison ensures that girls who are feeling ill or are seeking advice are provided with the help they need. Nurse Dennison began her career as a General Nurse and Midwife at the RVH. She is also experienced in Psychiatric, District and Casualty nursing.

Nurse Dennison has trained in Naturopathy and has completed her first module of Gerson Therapy (Hyper Nutrition and Detoxification). She is presently attending college in Bray, specializing in nutrition.

Complementary, alternative medicines are used in the sick bay such as:

  • Arnica - Bruising
  • Tissue salts - Period pains
  • Rescue Remedies - Anxiety
Nurse Dennison will:
  • Store pupils' medication
  • Assist/support diabetics to self-medicate
  • Monitor pupils with nut allergies
  • Give advice before administering medicines
  • Give advice or support about health/smoking/eating disorders/diet/relationships/sexual health/date rape/social issues/piercings

The sick bay is open from 9:30am - 3:00pm (Thurs 2:00pm). Pupils are only permitted to visit with the permission of a teacher and Nurse Dennison will contact parents if a child is too ill to remain in school. All visits are recorded as are details of illnesses and accidents.
