ICT in local Primary Schools
I would like to introduce myself as Mrs Dillon the new transition teacher in the Girls' Model. My job is to work in the local primary schools getting to know the pupils, so that when they start in September the pupils will already know a friendly face. I also teach in the Girls' Model so I am a very busy lady.
So far I have visited Ballysillan Primary, Black Mountain, Harmony Primary, Glenwood, Ligoniel, Seaview and Springhill Primary. Examples of their work can be viewed further down this page.
Ballysillan Primary
The P5/6 is a great group of pupils who are very keen to learn new ICT skills. So far the pupils have been learning how to make posters in Publisher and produce a PowerPoint presentation.
Black Mountain Primary
I got to know the pupils very well in Black Mountain as there are only 9 P7's. From September to Christmas I visited the school every Thursday morning. The pupils are working towards achieving their ICT accreditation. The pupils learnt how to search the internet for information, word process, prepare a presentation and use spreadsheets. The pupils all worked really hard on their ICT work and produced some excellent pieces. I really enjoyed teaching the class and they were sad to see me leave.
Harmony Primary
The school has a really great ICT suite. Every Wednesday morning I took the P7 class when pupils learnt the basic skills for PowerPoint and went on to produce a presentation about 'Myself'. The pupils had the opportunity to use the digital camera for their presentation. From their presentation I learnt lots of interesting facts about each pupil.
Glenwood Primary
There are two classes of P7 in Glenwood so Monday afternoon I taught each P7 class for an hour in the ICT suite. The pupils were working on achieving their ICT accreditation certificate. While I was there we spent all the time learning how to use PowerPoint and the pupils produced brilliant presentations on an animal of their choice. So there were Lions, Polar bears, Dinosaurs, Sheep and many more presentations produced. The pupils were very keen to learn new ICT skills and I am sure some of the pupils could study computers at university one day.
Ligoniel Primary
I have just started to work in Ligoniel from January with the P6/7 class. The pupils have the opportunity to use the laptops in their classroom. They are working on completing the ICT accreditation by May so we are going to be very busy over the next few months.
I also had the opportunity to work with four P6 pupils for Numeracy. They were a great group of pupils who were so keen to improve their numeracy skills. We had lots of fun playing maths games.
Seaview Primary
I have started up a new after schools club in Seaview for the P7 pupils. In the ICT club they have produced calendars, PowerPoint presentations, Christmas cards and now are working on producing a website. So look out in the future the websites being linked from the GMS website.
The P6 and P7 have both been working on the ICT accreditation for the first time. The pupils have been learning lots of new skills and have been able to complete their ICT accreditation tasks individually.
Springhill Primary
I have only started teaching in Springhill and hopefully both P7 class will learn how to produce a PowerPoint presentation by Easter time.
