Well Read

24 June 2008

On Wednesday 23rd April Year 10 pupils at the Belfast Model School for Girls accepted The Belfast Telegraph's Newspaper Challenge. During the final term pupils read and examined The Belfast Telegraph on a weekly basis, studying different parts of newspaper content, language and style of writing.

Well-Read Certificate

Pupils were given the opportunity to read factual and informative texts in order to select information; make effective use of information in their own work and evaluate how information is presented. It is hoped that this challenge will have encouraged our pupils to write to inform others through reportage - skills needed for GCSE and skills that can be put to real practical use through membership of the Girls' Model Editorial Team.

The pupils' final task was to produce their own newspaper page or pages with roles being delegated according to the pupils' strengths.

Overall the English Department was delighted with the pupils' achievement. Each Year 10 pupil is to be presented with a certificate of achievement to commend her hard work. Well done Year 10!
